~ University of Mississippi ~

The University of Mississippi feature twirler try-outs are generally held toward the end of April. The University of Mississippi does NOT have a majorette line. The number of twirlers can vary from year to year. The judges may choose zero, one, two, or three girls to become featured twirlers (depending on how many spots are available). They do not judge on a comparative basis; Twirlers are judged on whether or not they have the ability to twirl for a major university. The twirlers are to create a 3 minute dance-twirl routine emphasizing a mastery of one, two, three, and/or four batons. They may tryout in a uniform or warm-up outfit. Try-outs are generally held outside on grass. Also, fire batons, hoops, streamers, knives, etc. are discouraged.

In addition to performing at all home football games and many away games, the marching band has attended numerous bowl games including the Sugar Bowl, the Gator Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, the Independence Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, and most recently the Motor City Bowl in 1997 and the Independence Bowl in 1998 and 1999.
