The Glitz, The Glamour, The IUP Majorettes
"The Pride of Pennsylvania, The Beast of the East, The IUP Marching Band…"
IUP is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The IUP Marching Band consists of
200 dedicated and talented musicians, majorettes, and color guard members.
Our season lasts well into the spring semester with twirling appearances at
many school-related functions that take place around campus. The IUP
Majorette Line for the 2001 marching season has been set. The members
include:
Carrie Fluhrer, Christa Liadis, Brandi Sobeski, Becky Gruber, Missy Ewing,
Bethany Nichols, Jennifer Jablonski, Cheri Kitch, Kimberly Golding
The IUP Majorette line consists of nine members. There is no set number of
girls on the line. For our field show and parades, we wear a Silver and Black
Sequins Bodysuit with white knee boots. For pre-game, we wear a Maroon
Military Jacket with Maroon Skirt.
Our twirling style is very sharp and precise—to a non-majorette eye, our
twirling may seem extremely easy but in fact, it is not. We spend a great
amount of time perfecting our twirls and routines—we start months in advance
in order to prepare for marching season. Here at IUP, we pride ourselves as
twirling as one. With twirling as one, we have gained the reputation of a
fine-tuned, well-oiled machine. No one girl is star—we twirl as equals. We
strive for perfection and perfection is what we achieve through rigorous and
systematic practices and twirling.
Auditions were held on April 28th. Auditions typically last the entire
day—with a break for lunch. The audition process consists of a marching
clinic, eight to ten count fundamental routine, and 1-1˝ individual routine.
At the conclusion of the audition process, the line is set. There are no
requirements for dress at auditions—dress comfortably it is a LONG day!!!
This year, a mini-camp will be held in Indiana on June 30th to July 1st.
Since our twirling style is so intense, extra practices will be held and
incorporated into the season before band camp. Band Camp will begin on
Wednesday August 15th and conclude on Sunday August 26th.
The majorettes perform at all home football games and any festivals. The
marching season is jammed-packed with tons of opportunities to show-off what
we do. We would love for any interested girl to attend any of our
performances or contact the IUP Marching Band Office at 724-357-7985. You can
also visit the IUP Marching Band Homepage for a listing of the schedule and
current news taking place within the Marching Band.

Not only is the IUP Majorette Line a great opportunity to enhance your
twirling ability, it is an opportunity to travel and create life-long
friendships! Come out and give the IUP Majorette Line a chance—the best is
yet to come!
