Dr. Coral Noonan was The University of Texas Feature Twirler from 1993-2001.
The University of Texas is one of the largest universities in the nation, and Austin has
been named “The Music Capitol of the World.” The Longhorn Band has been in
existence for over 100 years. In the 1950s-1960s, the Longhorn Band had a
majorette line called the “Texas Stars.” However, there has not been a twirling
line since this time. Within the past 50 years, the Longhorn Band has had 1-5
Feature Twirlers with the traditional number being 2.

April 2005: Live auditions and interviews for finalists
Finalists:
Finalists will be mailed a recording of three compositions recorded by the
Longhorn Band in recent years. Each finalist is charged with choreographing
routines to each work. (Please choreograph the three compositions into 1 continuous routine—e.g., a halftime performance—in which each song follows one another, and your equipment is placed in the correct position for quick and innovative retrievals during your routine). We request that the routines for the first and third
works ONLY use batons and all extra (trick) equipment be used in the second
routine.
The Directors of the Longhorn Band and one outside expert will adjudicate the
finalists. The performances will be judged on creativity, technique, poise,
confidence, and execution.
Following all performances, each finalist will have a 15-minute interview with
the Directors. Questions in the interview will revolve around the candidates'
philosophy, personal traits and integrity, work ethic, and attitude. The
Directors reserve the right to decline naming a feature twirler when none meet
acceptable standards based upon the live audition and interview.
Announcement:
The new Feature Twirler for the Longhorn Band will be announced the week
following all finalists' audition/interview.
