Some of the UMass twirlers tricks include toss illusions, toss cartwheel, toss layback, vertical two spin, horizontal two spins and numerous other vertical and horizontal tosses. For a more complete list of their tricks, check out their "tricks" page.

The UMASS Minuteman Marching Band is the only college band in New England with a twirling line. Their routines include lots of dance movements and exchanges. The band typically performs about eight songs per season, so twirlers are expected to be able to learn and perfect routines quickly.

For auditions, canidates are asked to perform a 2 minute routine that shows the full extent of their twirling ability. This routine can be choreographed to music or not. Canidates are sometimes asked to sumbit a video, especially if they are from far away.
