Gatorettes

There is not a specific number of spots available on the University of Florida twirling line. The number of Gatorettes depends on the caliber of the applicants. Girls must audition each year; their spot on the squad is not guaranteed.

Applicants are judged on:

  • marching
  • personality projection
  • fitness level

The Gatorettes perform with the "Pride of the Sunshine" Marching Band at all the home games and several away games each year. The band has also performed at Bowl Games for the last 10 years.

In addition to football half-time shows, the Gatoretts also compete. In 2002 they brought home three NBTA national titles.

Try-outs for the squad consist of two parts: Individual Dance-Twirl routine and marching. The individual routine cannot be longer than three minutes and must include one, two and three batons. It also must include a prop. Fire batons and knives are not permitted. Applicants are required to perform the following:

  • Toss Illusion
  • Toss Reverse Illusion
