~ Tyler Junior College ~

Their is only 2 Feature twirlers at TJC. Head Captain Hollee Holt has been at TJC from 2002-2003, joined by Cassie Leonard 2003.

Each twirler gets the chance to show off their talents for march relm (a tradition the apaches have done for the past 40 yrs) pre-game,half time, and parade performances.TJC twirlers are under no director, just coached by Hollee Holt(head feature twirler). Both twirlers have competed in different associations. Cassie Leonard has won state titles throughout her high school years, and Hollee Holt has won several state, regional, and national titles through USTA. Hollee's team "Ambition" won the title of the 2003 US Pretrials Gold Medalist Team in the US.

Try-outs for feature twirler is usually held in April or May. They are either held in a gym or outside. Each individual will be scheduled at different times, and is judged by band director and current feature twirlers. The routine needs to be no longer than 3 minutes, and must twirlers must perform with 1, 2, and 3 batons throughout routine. Each twirler is judged on showmanship, appearance, fitness level, dance and ballet skills.

Twirlers for TJC are expected to be able to twirl 1,2,3 baton, ribbons, knives, flag batons, glow stick batons and perform 3 spin or higher, toss illusion (including reverse), High toss cartwheel (walkover would be nice), Right and Left split leaps, 2 baton skills, 3 baton skills, and have a dance and ballet background.

From Hollee Holt:

"Within the past 2 yrs since I have been at TJC, I love the fact that TJC only has 2 twirlers. Having a line is wonderful because I do that too, but on the other hand, I loved getting the chance to work with the 2 twirlers that I have been with, and improving their skills. If I had a line to run, not each girl would get the special attention needed. I can't tell you how much the past 2 twirlers I have worked with at TJC has improved dramatically. I always try to encourage any twirlers to practice and stay on top of things no matter how hard twirling gets.. just practice, because it will pay off in the long run..."
Exciting News: TJC BAND GETS TO GO TO HAWAII FOR 2004 SPRING BREAK AND PERFORM FOR THE NAVY ON A SHIP AND WE GET TO TWIRL...ITS GOING TO BE A BLAST!!!!
