Twirlers help add to the flare of "North Carolina's Band of Distinction". The Appalachian State majorettes performan at football games during pregame, halftime, and postgame. The twirlers also do parades and some selected exhibitions.
There is not a required number of twirlers. Size of the squad depends on skill level. In past squads there has been as many as seven. Equipment used ranges from one baton, two batons and three batons, to blades, streamer, cape, flag batons, hoop, fire and swing flags. Twirlers are expected to be able to perform 2 spin, toss illusion, toss cartwheel, toss forward roll, and two baton and three batons tricks.
